Gerald Austin Doyle Jr. was born to Gerald Austin and Adele (Seims) Doyle on September 20, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio. After serving in the Army during World War II, Doyle earned his B.A. in Architecture from Western Reserve University (1948) and his M.A. in Architecture from Harvard University (1951).
