Edmund Battelle Taylor was born April 4, 1904, in Chicago, Illinois. He received his commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy from Annapolis on June 4, 1925, and had sea duty on battleships New York, Texas and Wyoming, and on destroyers Hatfield, Leary and Perry.
