Carl Andrew Spaatz (born Spatz; June 28, 1891 – July 14, 1974), nicknamed "Tooey", was an American World War II general. William Fulton McKee (1906-1987) was born in Chilhowie, Virginia. Cecil Edward Combs was born October 21, 1912, in Dallas, Texas. He received his commission as 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1936, and advanced through grades to major general in the U.S. Air Force in 1961.
