Dwight David Eisenhower (1890-1969) was leader of the Allied forces in Europe in World War II, commander of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), and the thirty-fourth president of the United States, from January 20, 1953, to January 20, 1961. Eisenhower was born on October 14, 1890, in Denison, Texas, the third son of David Jacob Eisenhower, a railroad worker, and Ida Elizabeth Stover. Robert Steiner Kieve (b. 1921) graduated from Harvard University in 1943 and began work in Madrid as Information Officer of the American Embassy. He returned to the United States in 1947 as Program Director of radio station WGVA in Geneva, New York. He moved to New York City two years later to work as a writer for CBS from 1950 to 1953.
