Herbert S. Parmet was born on September 28, 1929 in New York, New York. He received a B.S. from State University of New York in 1951, and M.A. from Queens College in 1957; and completed post-graduate work at Columbia University from 1958 to 1962. He was a professor of history at the Graduate School of City University of New York (CUNY), 1968 to 1995, and professor emeritus of the City University of New York in 1995.
