This series documents the military career and the retirement years of Lewis H. Brereton, including World War II, air warfare, the Far East Air Force, Japanese planes, and bombings. This series contains correspondence, messages, articles (many by Brereton), diaries, orders, commissions, commendations, awards, decorations, maps and scrapbooks. Materials worthy of special note are a copy of General Brereton's Headquarters Diary for the period December 8, 1941 to February 24, 1942 while he was commander of the Far East Air Force in the Philippines and correspondence exchanged with George C. Marshall.

Lewis Hyde Brereton (June 21, 1890 – July 20, 1967) was a military aviation pioneer and lieutenant general in the United States Air Force.
