Francis Sydney (F.S.) Smythe (1900-1949) was a British mountaineer, botanist, author, and photographer. Smythe explored new routes in the Alps, such as that explored with Professor Thomas Graham Brown on Mont Blanc (1927 and 1928). His climbs also included six expeditions in the Himalayas, including Kamet (the first peak over 25,000 to be climbed in 1931) and Everest (1933, 1936, and 1938).
