Outside of museum holdings, no comprehensive survey and inventory of campus artwork had been attempted since 1937. Lawrence S. Berlin was born in 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri. After receiving his MA in political science from the University of Michigan in 1958, Berlin joined the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations. In the years that followed this appointment in 1959, Berlin would serve in several positions in the U-M School of Education. In 1962, he was named director of course programs for the University of Michigan Extension Service, a position he held until 1978. In 1967, he joined th...
