The Gorman family settled and resided primarily in Chelsea, Michigan. James Sedgwick Gorman (1850-1923), a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School in 1876, and a Democrat, served as assistant prosecuting attorney of Jackson County for two years; was a member of the State House of Representatives in 1880; served in the State Senate in 1886 and 1888, and from 1891 to 1895 was a member of Congress.
