Morton Matthew McCarver (1807-1875) was a merchant, farmer, public official, and promoter who came to Oregon in 1843 and established the town of Linnton from 1843-1844.

The Hampton Lillibridge House was built in 1796 by Rhode Island native, Hampton Lillibridge in the traditional New England style.
