The first issue of the College Barometer was published on 16 March 1896 and was subsequently published monthly and then semi-weekly. It became the Daily Barometer in 1923 and is still published daily when classes are in session. Journalism Professor Charles J. McIntosh came to Oregon Agricultural College in 1913 as editor of press bulletins and the College's first journalism instructor. Corvallis College, the predecessor institution to Oregon State University, was incorporated in 1858 as a coeducational institution of primary and preparatory education. Plagued by financial instability, the College changed hands several times and added college-level coursework in the 1860s.
