Grace Lutheran of Barber was organized May 3, 1911 by a student pastor, O. T. Floodberg. The Methodists built a church in Barber in 1917, and this building was used by both Methodists and Lutherans until 1927 when the Lutherans bought the building and the Methodists moved to Ryegate. From a small beginning in May 1932, the Methodist Crusaders Choir, then with 75 choristers, was hurriedly formed and made its first public appearance at the General Conference Meetings of the Methodist Church of Australasia.
