The Joseph S. Butts Papers consist ofresearch data, laboratory notebooks, and reprints of scientificpublications documenting the biochemistry and agricultural chemistryresearch of Butts as a graduate student and professor at the University ofSouthern California in the 1930s and as a faculty member at Oregon StateCollege. Butts was a faculty member at Oregon State from 1939 until hisdeath in 1961.

Joseph Shirey Butts was a Professor of Agricultural Chemistry at Oregon State College from 1939 until his death in 1961 and department head from 1946 until 1961.
