Daniel J. Donohue (1869-1939) was an Irish immigrant who grew up in Chicago. He worked in the mercantile business in Chicago, Butte, Montana, and Hamilton, Montana before opening his own store, D. J. Donohue Company, in Missoula in 1900. He married Kate Hennessy (1866-1951) in Butte in 1894. They had three daughters: Dorothy, Eileen and Kathryn.
