Sir Edwin Arnold (1832-1904) was an award-winning poet and journalist. Born and raised in Essex, Arnold earned both a B.A. and M.A. from Oxford. In 1873, he became chief editor of the major London newspaper, the , a post that he held for 16 years. After his retirement from the paper, Arnold embarked on a series of world travels and continued to write articles for the . This letter, written July 30, 1894 to an unidentified archdeacon, expresses appreciation for an article submitted by the archdeacon for publication in the .The letter is written on the letterhead of Jacques Hall, near Bradfield, Essex.
