The American writer Charles Plymell was born in Holcomb, Kansas, in 1935. During the 1960s he lived in San Francisco and was associated with the Beat writers Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. In 1966, Plymell married Pamela Beach, a relative of Sylvia Beach, the owner of the Shakespeare and Company bookshop in Paris and original publisher of Ulysses.
