Martin J. Klein papers 1951-2004

The papers consist of teaching files in physics and history of science and medicine from Klein's years at Yale University; earlier teaching files are from Case Institute of Technology. Also included is documentation on the symposium to celebrate the sesquecentennial of J. Willard Gibbs's birth in May 1989. Correspondence, taped lectures given by Klein, and an oral history interview of Madeleine Michelson Mueller are also included in the papers.

Martin J. Klein was born on June 25, 1924, in New York City. He received his A.B. in 1942 and A.M. in 1944 from Columbia University, and his Ph.D. in physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1948. He was a member of the Operations Research Group for the U. S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. Klein returned to MIT in 1946 as a research associate in physics.
