Collection contains letters, minutes, financialreports, photos and other documents. These records represent the officialarchives of the Trustees of Lingnan University from approximately 1952 to thepresent. Originals of the earlier official archives are located at Harvard; amicrofilm copy is available at the Yale Divinity Library. The photos andfinancial records in this collection provide substantial early documentation ofLingnan University and Canton Christian College. Lingnan University, located inCanton, China, was formerly known as Canton Christian College. It received itscharter from the New York Board of Regents in 1893. American involvement withthe University ended in 1949 following the Communist takeover of Canton. TheTrustees of Lingnan University supported other institutions and programs after1949, including Chung Chi College, Lingnan College, and the Lingnan Instituteof Business Administration, all in Hong Kong.

George Weidman Groff received his bachelor's and master's degrees in horticulture from Penn State. He pioneered the idea of agricultural missions under Christian auspices and in 1907 became the first agricultural missionary to China.
