English department records pertaining to graduate students not completing degrees comprise this series which spans the years from 1951 through 1980 and fills nine boxes. The records have been maintained in files on each individual student with folders arranged alphabetically according to surname. Typically found in the records, though not necessarily in each file, are applications to admission to graduate study, applications for fellowships and financial aid, transcripts of coursework completed, letters of recommendation, copies of examinations, examination results and course evaluations, proposals concerning independent research and study, and related correspondence. Usually the particular reason for termination of study may be found in each student's file.
