Tod Huntington Francis was born September 8, 1959. After spending his youth in Indianapolis, he entered Northwestern University in 1977. Francis graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. While a student at Northwestern, he funded his tuition through extensive work in photography, taking pictures of numerous campus events typically relating to fraternities and sororities, working especially for the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
