Felix Freilich was born in Altenburg, Germany on February 28, 1920 to Bernhard and Sophie Freilich. His father worked in textiles and his mother maintained a grocery on the ground floor of their house. Felix Freilich had two siblings: a sister named Sala and a brother, Max. At nine years old Felix Freilich began to study the violin, and by eleven he was playing solo pieces at school concerts.
