Bridesburg is a neighborhood located in the northeast section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is bounded by the Delaware River and the Frankford Creek. It was originally known as Kirkbridesburg after Joseph Kirkbride, a prominent citizen who owned much land in the area and operated a ferry across the Frankford Creek. Rohm & Haas was founded by Dr. Otto Rohm and Mr. Otto Haas in Esslingen, Germany in 1907. In 1911 Haas opened a U.S. branch in Philadelphia. The company prospered through sale of such products as Oropon and Plexiglas acrylic. The firm also branched out into textiles. In 2008, it was purchased by Dow Chemical Company.
