Jacksonville, Florida, Historical Newspapers Collection 1890-2012

This collection contains primary news resources which chronicle and document the history of Northeast Florida, including commemorative and anniversary newspaper editions of The Florida Times-Union (FTU, morning newspaper, 1864 -) and the Jacksonville Journal (afternoon newspaper, 1887-1988). Also, included are selective copies of print newspapers and newsclippings documenting notable news in Jacksonville and the surrounding region. The earliest newspapers are 1890 souvenir trade editions; the vast majority of the selective papers date from the late twentieth century. In totality, the collection provides insight, commentary, and documentation on pivotal events and transformational individuals in Jacksonville history, and serves as a prime resource for informative data not readily available elsewhere.

Charles Edward Bennett (b. Dec. 2, 1910, Canton, N.Y.-d. Sept. 6, 2003, Jacksonville, Fla.), lawyer, was a member of the Florida state house of representatives in 1941.
