Darius Nash Couch (1822-1897) was a Brigadier General for the Union Army during the Civil War. This collection consists of one volume containing the Consolidated Morning Reports of Couch's Brigade, dated August 16 to October 14, 1861. The reports include the 7th and 10th Massachusetts Volunteers, 36th New York and 2nd Rhode Island Volunteers, and provide the number of men in each regiment, rank, duties, number of sick, under arrest, discharged, and died

Couch was born in 1822 on a farm in the village of Southeast in Putnam County, New York, and was educated at the local schools there. In 1842 he entered the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating four years later 13th out of 59 cadets. On July 1, 1846, Couch was commissioned a brevet second lieutenant and was assigned to the 4th U.S. Artillery.
