Henry Chase (1790-1853) was a Methodist Episcopal clergyman. The Mariner's Church, formally dedicated in 1820, was a non-denominational church located on Roosevelt Street in New York City. It was founded by the Society for Promoting the Gospel among Seamen in the Port of New York, later known as the New York Port Society. The collection consists of transcripts from original records of marriage and baptismal services performed 1821-1853 by Rev. Henry Chase of the Mariner's Church in New York City. Marriage entries, 1821-1853, in alphabetical order by surname, note the parties' names, date of marriage, ages, and places of birth and residence (city, state or country). Entries under A begin at 1823; an entry for 1821 is found at surnames beginning with H. Baptism entries, 1822-1853, in chronological order, note parents' names, child's name, and dates of baptism and birth.
