James K. Polk was the 11th president of the United States. Letters and documents of James K. Polk, 1827-1845, one letter of his wife, Sarah, and one letter to Polk from James Irvin, 1845. Included in the collection is a volume of autographs of Polk and the members of his administration, 1848-1849.

James Irvin managed the Milesburg Iron Works in Centre County with Joseph Green, Andrew Gregg and John M. McCoy. They managed under the titles James Irvin & Co., Irvin, Gregg & Co., and Irvin, McCoy & Co.. In 1859 Irvin moved to Philadelphia to manage the McCoy & Linn iron store.
