Elizabeth Carter, English poet, translator, and writer.She began publishing poems in the Gentleman's Magazine in the 1730's and her Poems on Particular Occasions was published in 1738. Carter was the first to translate the complete works of the Greek philosopher Epictetus (1758), and her Poems on Several Occasions (1762) was very popular -- five editions were published during her lifetime. To unknown recipient : 1 autograph note and signature : [ca. mid-to-late 18th century] : (MISC 2016). Tipped into the William Upcott album of letters by eminent women, shelved under "Upcott" with bound manuscript volumes.
