William Cumming Rose graduated from Davidson College in 1907. He earned a Ph. D. from Yale University in 1911. Dr. Rose taught at the University of Illinois from 1922-1953. He helped lay the foundation of modern nutritional research by identifying the importance of amino acids as the building blocks of proteins. In 1966 he was awarded the National Medal of Science by president Lyndon B. Johnson. He was also awarded the Charles B. Spencer medal, the Willard Gibbs medal, the Osborne and Mendel awa...
