Eugene C. Beddingfield (1862-1926), a native of Raleigh, was a teacher in Wake County and the leader of the Democratic Party in North Carolina. He was elected to the state legislature in 1888 and 1891. He served as secretary to the North Carolina Farmers' Alliance in 1890, a member of the North Carolina Railroad Commission (1891-1897), and a member of the North Carolina Corporation Commission (1896-1908).
