This series contains Marvin Watson's files on subjects created and assembled during his time as Special Assistant to President Johnson, along with select security classified documents from the Office of Postmaster General. Included are materials on key issues, organizations, and politicians critical to Democratic party politics. Subjects include civil rights, the Vietnam War, the Democratic National Committee (DNC), Democratic and Republican politicians, and political campaigns. Materials include DNC reports, meeting notes, schedules, memorandums, staff personnel resumes, transportation reports, and DNC committee records for the House and Senate. There are also newspaper articles, defense contracts, Congressional contacts, polls, reports, financial materials, summaries of telephone conversations, and calendars. Civil rights related material includes memorandums on candidates, Johnson administration policies, and the Detroit Riots. There are also memorandums and articles on Lyndon Johnson, Hubert Humphrey, and other politicians including Barry Goldwater, George Romney, Nelson Rockefeller, John F. Kennedy, Edward Kennedy, Richard Nixon, George Wallace, Eugene McCarthy, and Ronald Reagan. There are also memorandums, speeches, and newspaper clippings from Democratic officials and Johnson staff members including Arthur Krim, Robert "Bobby" Baker, Larry O'Brien, Sargent Shriver, Jack Valenti, Fred Panzer, Bill Moyers, and John Roche.
