The Collection includes over 200 linear ft. of correspondence, diaries, speeches, press releases, scrapbooks, voting records and photographs documenting Martin’s political career. The collection is organized into four series; correspondence, public papers and press releases, photographs and scrapbooks. The collection includes information relating to both foreign and domestic political issues in the 1930s-1960s including the New Deal, Fair Deal, taxes, government expansion, fiscal responsibility and communism. The correspondence and photograph files include notable figures such as Dwight D. Eisenhower, Herbert Hoover, Lyndon Johnson, Franklin Roosevelt, Douglas MacArthur, Richard Nixon, John F. Kennedy, and Wendell Willkie.

Joseph William Martin Jr. (November 3, 1884 – March 6, 1968) was an American politician who served as the 44th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1947 to 1949 and 1953 to 1955; he represented the district covering North Attleborough, Massachusetts. He was the only Republican to serve as Speaker in a sixty-four year period from 1931 to 1995.
