The series contains film and sound recordings related to the motion picture film, "The President: January, 1967" including silent film footage that was not used in the finished film. The finished film is a narrative account of President Lyndon B. Johnson's activities for the month of January, 1967. Footage from the White House includes President Johnson and staff working on the State of the Union Address; the swearing-in of Alan S. Boyd as Secretary of the Department of Transportation, in the East Room; President Johnson receiving the credentials of Ambassador Bui Diem of South Vietnam; the presentation of a portrait of Franklin D. Roosevelt to President Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson, in the East Room; dinner in honor of the Vice President, the Speaker, and the Chief Justice; and the Medal of Honor presentation to Major Bernard F. Fisher, of the United States Air Force. Other visitors to the White House featured in the film include the poster girl for the March of Dimes, the Australian Science Scholars, and President-elect Costa E. Silva of Brazil. The film contains scenes of President Johnson signing the Economic Report of the President and the Treaty on Outer Space. The film also includes the State of the Union Address, in the House Chamber, and the funeral of Apollo astronauts Lieutenant Colonel Gus Grissom and Lieutenant Commander Roger Chaffee at Arlington National Cemetery.

Virgil Ivan "Gus" Grissom (b. April 3, 1926-d. Jan. 27, 1967) was born in Mitchell, Indiana. An Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, received his wings in March 1951. He flew 100 combat missions in Korea in F-86s with the 334th Fighter Interceptor Squadron and, upon returning to the United States in 1952, became a jet instructor at Bryan, Texas.
