Jake Daubert Scrapbook : scrapbook, 1919 - 1921.

Scrapbook contains newspaper articles relating to the 1919 world series, articles relating to the testimony and trial dated 1920 and 1921. Also included is a 1967 Cincinnati Reds yearbook; a folder with correspondence dated 1966 to 1997. This correspondence is predominantly to and from George Daubert, son of Jake. Includes newspaper clippings and a Hall of Fame questionnaire filled out by George Daubert. A photocopy of Baseball Magazine, 129 pages, which has an article on Jake Daubert.

In 1919, some Chicago White Sox players intentionally lost the World Series to the Cincinnati Reds. As compensation, some of the players received cash payments from gamblers. Jacob Ellsworth Daubert was born April 7th, 1884 in Shamokin, PA to Jacob and Sarah Daubert. At age eleven Jake entered the coalmines, working with his father and brothers. He was able to escape a life in the mines when he signed a contract with a semi-professional team in Lykens, PA. He started out as a pitcher as many ballplayers do but quickly was moved over to the first sack.
