The papers consist chiefly of letters to Josias Müller and his wife, Dorothea Winkler Müller from her family in Germany and Zurich, Switzerland. They relate news of family and friends. There is one letter from the United States to Germany written 1852 March 1, by Peter Müller, Josias's brother, to his family at home. Also included are a journeyman's passport, 1845 March 29, issued to Josias; a certificate of Zurich citizenship, 1845 November 29, for Dorothea; their voyage contract, 1853 April 9, with Steinmann- Brevet from Mannheim to New York; their boarding passes and Dorothea's passport, 1853; their marriage certificate; a commercial lease for Müller, 1853; a life insurance receipt, 1859; and a manufacturer's license. Also include letter of exchange, 1867 December 6, Mossingen, to Müller, Antwerp, New York; a funeral oration, ca. 1869, in memory of Johann and Louise Müller; a rent receipt, 1877; a mortgage, 1884; a letter patent, 1891 March 4, signed by John Wanamaker and Benjamin Harrison appointing Müller postmaster at Antwerp; cartes-de-visite of the Müllers; a lithographed and a printed religious sentiment; an undertaker's receipt for Peter Miller's [sic] funeral; and a brief Müller family history.
