The Augustus H. Garland Family including Augustus H. Garland, his wife Sarah Garland and son Thomas (1853-1855). Augustus H. Garland (1832-1899) served as Governor of Arkansas, 1874-77; U.S. senator, 1877-85; and U.S. attorney general, 1885-89. Sarah Virginia Sanders Garland (1835-1877) was daughter of Hempstead County, Arkansas, clerk Simon T. Sanders. Sarah and Augustus Garland married in 1853.
