Correspondence documents communications of the State Library with the American Library Association (ALA). Subjects include library services to army camps and soldiers during World War I, the exchange of information about libraries in Oregon and the services they provide, loyalty oaths, and intellectual freedom. Eleanor Stephens, State Librarian, 1941-1958, was active in ALA and its committees and much of the correspondence documents her involvement with the organization and with the affiliated National Association of State Librarians.
