Biographical Information:

Elizabeth Chater earned her BA in English from the University of British Columbia and an MA from SDSU. She began teaching creative and science fiction writing at San Diego State University in 1963. During her tenure at SDSU, Chater was nominated for and received an Outstanding Professor Award, and wrote and published numerous articles, stories, and poems. Chater was eventually named Emeritus Professor of English at SDSU.

In 1977, Chater began donating her collection of science fiction and fantasy books to the university. Her original donation consisted of 2,300 items and the collection has grown to over 4,000 today. It includes a number of rare first editions and signed books, cassette tapes, clippings, figurines, and posters.
