Cayley, George John, 1826-1878
Variant namesGeorge John Cayley was a British author and lawyer. He was educated at Cambridge, winning a medal for poetry, but did not graduate; he went on to become a lawyer. In poor health, he moved to Spain, publishing travel articles of his journeys in Bentley's Miscellany. He travelled often, serving as a correspondent in the Crimea and Middle East, before returning to England to run for a seat in Parliament, unsuccessfully. He later lived in Spain and Algiers. He also wrote on politics, economics, and other topics.
