Jack H. Watson was born on October 24, 1938 in El Paso, Texas. He received a B.A. from Vanderbilt University in 1960 and an LL.B from Harvard University in 1966. He was an associate at King & Spalding in Atlanta, 1966 to 1971, and partner from 1972 to 1977. He also served as Counsel for the Metropolitan Atlanta Commission on Crime and Juvenile Delinquency, 1966 to 1967; president of Metropolitan Atlanta Mental Health Association, 1971 to 1972; chairman of the Governor's Study Commission on Alcohol, 1971 to 1972; Georgia Alcoholism Advisory Council, 1972; and chairman of the board, Georgia Department of Human Resources, 1972 to 1977. From 1977 to 1980 he served as Cabinet Secretary and Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs. In this capacity he was responsible for White House liaison with Cabinet members and with governors, mayors, and other local government officials. After leaving the White House, Watson was a partner with the firm of Long, Aldridge & Norman in Atlanta, 1981 to 1998.
