United States. Steubenville Land Office.

An act of Congress dated May 10, 1800, established federal land offices in Steubenville, Cincinnati, Chillicothe, and Marietta to facilitate the sale of land in the Northwest Territory.

The last federal land office in Ohio at Chillicothe closed in 1876 and all federal land office records were transferred to the Auditor of State's Office in 1877. These records were subsequently transferred to the State Archives at the Ohio Historical Society.
