The Joseph Kelley family lived in Reedsville, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. The father owned a lumber company (manufacturer of pine and oak lumber) in Reedsville. Son J. Walter Kelley attended Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa., and in 1930 worked at the Bethlehem-Fairfield Shipyard, Baltimore, Md. Son James Arthur "Art" Kelley attended Mercersburg Academy and the Pennsylvania State College. The family had four other sons and two daughters, including one named Ruth. The second oldest son, Robert, also attended Dickinson College.
