Titus, born in Traverse City (Mich.) on Feb. 20, 1888, attended the University of Michigan (UM), 1907-1911. He was a World War I veteran, fruit grower, and pioneer of Michigan's conservation movement. He received an honorary MA from the UM in 1934 and the Wildlife Society's Leopold Medal for his conservation efforts, among other awards. Titus helped organize the Izaak Walton League of America, 1922, served on the Michigan Conservation Commission, 1927-1948, often as chair, was a leader in the formation of Michigan's Forest Service, and served as superintendent of the WPA Michigan Writers Project, 1939. He also wrote articles about Michigan's natural wonders and trout for Field and Stream. He died in Traverse City in 1967.
