Byroade, Henry A. (Henry Alfred), 1913-
Variant namesHenry A. Byroade (1913-1993) was the Director of the Bureau of German Affairs from 1949 to 1951 and Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern, South Asian, and African Affairs from 1952 to 1955. From 1955 to 1956, Byroade was the U.S. Ambassador to Egypt, and then ambassador to the Union of South Africa from 1956 to 1959, and ambassador to Afghanistan from 1959 to 1962.
