A native of Bradford, N.H., Bainbridge Wadleigh practiced law and served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives before being elected as a Republican to serve in the U.S. Senate in 1872. After failing to win a second term as a senator in the elections of 1878, Waleigh resumed the practice of law in Boston, Mass., where he died in 1891.
