Holland, W. W. (Willian West), 1881-1956.
Biographical Note: William West Holland (1881-1956) was an industrial chemist (1916-56) who began his career teaching chemistry at the Johns Hopkins University (1907-16).
Born in Eastville, Va., Holland attended the University of Virginia and received his Ph. D. from Hopkins in 1907. He taught at Hopkins until 1916 where his research with H.N. Morse was on osmotic pressure. By 1938 Holland had returned to the Standard Oil Company where he remained until his retirement in 1946. Holland married Rosalie Eugenia Calvert in 1908, and they had two children Eugenia Calvert Holland and William Calvert Holland. Holland died in 1956.
