The International Bridge Authority of Michigan was created by Public Act 237 of 1935, as amended, to investigate, construct, maintain, and operate a bridge connecting the United States with Canada at Sault Ste. Marie. The Authority consists of three Michigan members appointed by the Governor with the consent of the Senate. The International Bridge was opened in 1962. The Executive Organization Act of 1965 transferred the Authority to the Department of State Highways (now Department of Transportation).
