Owen, Alfred, 1829-
Owen was born in Chiva, Maine, July 20, 1829, where he spent his boyhood and received his education. He graduated from Waterville College in 1853; taught in an academy for two years at Bridgeton, Maine, and in 1855 entered Andover Newton Theological Seminary. He served as pastor to the High Street Baptist Church in Lynn, Mass. He also served churches in Michigan and Illinois. In 1879 he was elected president of Denison University in Ohio.
