Kenneth Lee served with the 1325th Service Command Unit of the U.S. Army Transportation Corps during World War II. He received his basic training at Camp Kohler in Sacramento, California; attended Signal Corps radio school in Tyler, Texas; and completed Officer Candidate School at Mississippi State College. He served as a port battalion instructor at Fort Indiantown Gap (Pennsylvania) before being deployed to Iran in January, 1945 for hauling Lend-Lease supplies to the Soviet Union. After the war Lee served with the transportation division of the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring at the rank of Major in 1968. Lee and his wife Evelyne, corresponded frequently during his time away from home.
