The 71st Regiment of Foot (Fraser's Highlanders) was raised in Inverness, Stirling, and Glasgow in 1775, in two battalions. Following the New York and Philadelphia campaigns of 1776, the regiment was sent to Savannah in December 1778. In the spring of 1779, the 71st was attached to the forces under the command of Gen. Augustine Prevost during his invasion of South Carolina.

The 71st Regiment of Foot (Fraser's Highlanders) was raised in Inverness, Stirling and Glasgow in 1775, in two battalions. The regiment arrived in New York in July 1776, and took part in New York and Philadelphia campaign, before returning to New York in December 1777. In 1778, the regiment was under the command of General John Campbell (d. 1806), commander on Staten Island. It was sent to Savannah in Dec. 1778
