Brown Thurston (1814-1900), Portland, Me., printer and publisher, was born in Winthrop, Me., one of eight children of the Reverend David Thurston (1779-1865) and Prudence Brown Thurston (1786-1871). In 1842, he married Harriet Chapman (1813-1858) of Gilead, Me., by whom he had eight children. In 1859, he married Amanda Chapman (1828- ), Harriet's sister.
